Seven Witches: Deadly sins

05/12/07  ||  Euthanatos

The brainchild of axeman Jack Frost is one of those really old-school true metal bands. Everything about them sounds traditional and eighties-ish. The first time my attention was drawn to Seven Witches was when I heard James Rivera, of Helstar fame, was singing with them. As usual, his expiration date wasn’t far, and he was only there for 3 years.

Still, although not insanely original, you can guess by the ridiculously cliché album title “Deadly Sins”, Seven Witches manages to get your head banging at one time or another, provided you give them the chance.

As I mentioned, everything here sounds very traditional, and comparisons could be made to the also aforementioned Helstar troupe, as well as other classic acts like Metal Church and Exciter. You know, balls-out, cock-in, coke-sniffing heavy metal that gets your fist pumping the air, your girlfriend’s tits hard, your asshairs stand up.

Naturally most of this is due to the awesome guitar tone and interesting riffs courtesy of Jack Frost. The man has been in the business for a long time and certainly knows his shit. And while Steve Delaney and Kevin Bolembach deserve honorable mention, a worthy replacement for Rivera is former Hades vocalist Alan Tecchio. He brings a lot of his thrash/speed metal roots to his singing which perfectly complements the Seven Witches sound.

I’d point out the title-track, the brutally heavy “Worship” and the fun “Knowledge” as highlights. Still, nothing to write home about, but an entertaining album to have at your next beer-ridden party with the lads. Not pretentious, and sometimes that’s just the way we like it.

The cover: Boring power metal super powered crap.

6 spandex pants and leather jackets with spikes out of 10.
